The Challenge
Nicomatic designs and manufactures high-reliability electronic connectors across Europe, Africa, Asia and North America. Each site has its own language and constraints, yet all must meet the same standards for quality, safety and productivity within a highly technical, ISO-regulated environment. Production-line workers frequently encounter assembly issues, but they are not always technical experts, problems can be described in many different ways, root causes vary, and mistakes carry operational risks. Manual reporting also makes auditability inconsistent.
At the same time, operations depend on precise and repeatable tasks; machine setup, quality checks, non-conformity handling, operator onboarding, maintenance coordination and audit preparation. Much of this expertise lived in long procedures, in local experts’ heads or in informal workarounds that differed across factories. And because Nicomatic is extremely data-sensitive, any AI solution needed to be fully governed, traceable and compliant, with zero risk of hallucination or data leakage.
Three pressures were converging: global growth, multilingual workforces and rising customer expectations. Each new line or requirement meant updating documentation, re-training operators and hoping the message landed consistently across sites. In reality, it rarely did. Leaders needed one global way of working, reliable answers on the line, and full control from a system that would never improvise or drift outside industrial and regulatory constraints.
The Transformation
To address this, Nicomatic began capturing its operational expertise as deterministic conversational flows instead of static SOPs. The same “process brain” could then be deployed across France, the UAE, India, Senegal, Morocco and soon the United States, ensuring every site followed the same logic while adapting to local realities. This foundation enabled the creation of Sam, a governed AI assistant that workers can contact by voice or chat whenever an issue occurs on the production line.
Sam understands workers’ descriptions in natural language, reformulating and clarifying until it matches the situation to one of the predefined issues in Nicomatic’s ISO workflow. It then guides the worker through validated root-cause paths, using a funneling strategy to extract field knowledge while staying strictly aligned with documented procedures. Because its decisions are driven by Nicomatic’s deterministic process graph, not by LLM improvisation, Sam delivers consistent, explainable outcomes across all factories.
Unlike ChatGPT, it will not make up answers. It will say, ‘I don’t know how to answer.’ But then the technicians will work on the subject to add the new response, so that in a week, if I ask the same question, I will have my answer. That’s how knowledge grows.
Once a problem and its root cause are confirmed, Sam automatically logs the event in the ISO database, applies the correct data-handling rules, notifies the supervisor and escalates when required. Every step remains auditable and every action remains inside governed pipelines.
Multilingual deployment became an advantage rather than a constraint. After launching in French and English, the UAE rollout supported Nepali, Tagalog and Hindi from a single underlying model, eliminating reliance on informal translations. And as operators interact with Sam, every exception or clarification provides insight into where processes need refinement. Over time, GetVocal has become a living, shared memory of how work is truly performed, not just how it is documented.
The Result
With Sam embedded across production sites, operators gained immediate, accurate guidance for any technical issue, expressed in their own words and in their own language. Diagnosis paths became consistent and compliant, mirroring Nicomatic’s validated ISO procedures. Reporting, once manual and uneven, became structured, complete and instantly available for audits. Process changes that once took weeks across multiple sites now propagate in a single update, ensuring global alignment without additional training.
Most importantly, Nicomatic preserved human oversight. Sam never guesses: it follows defined protocols, escalates at the right moment and respects strict boundaries around data, safety and decision-making. Sensitive information never leaves governed environments, and every action is traceable.
- Understands workers’ multilanguage descriptions instantly
- Diagnoses issues with high accuracy
- Enforces ISO-compliant workflows
- Protects every piece of sensitive data
- Notifies supervisors or escalates when needed
- Ensures perfect auditability, every decision is transparent
The next implementations are set for India, Senegal, Morocco, and the United States.
Impact
Nicomatic now operates with a hybrid human–AI workforce where every operator has access to an expert-level, compliant assistant on demand, called Sam. Production issues are resolved faster, workflows are executed consistently, and quality deviations are captured with full traceability. Industrial expertise is no longer locked in documents, languages or individuals. It travels instantly across the global network. The result is a safer, more efficient manufacturing environment that meets ISO expectations while preparing Nicomatic for future automation at scale.
